MONARCHS DEFEAT CHICAGO BREEZE TO ADVANCE TO GWBA CHAMPIONSHIP
FLINT, MI -- The quest for the Flint Monarchs to repeat as champions of the Global Women's Basketball Association (GWBA) continued with the first round of playoffs over the weekend.
Flint defeated the Chicago Breeze, 86-77, on Saturday, Aug. 12.
Hamady graduate Arlesia Morse led the Monarchs with a team-high 24 points and 13 rebounds.
Grand Blanc graduate Shareta Brown contributed 17 points and 10 rebounds, former Beecher star Natasha Morris chipped in 13 points and six rebounds while Crystal Bradford added 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Former University of Illinois star Angelina Williams led the Breeze with a game-high 29 points and five rebounds with Shawnte Glenn posting 22 points.
The Monarchs (5-2) have advanced to the GWBA championship game which is set for 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19 in Milwaukee, Wis. against the Milwaukee Aces at Alverno College.
"I echo the words of the great Michael Jordan and that is talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships," said Monarchs president and general manager Drey Wynn. "This cohesive team is extremely talented but the play of our veterans will determine if we repeat as Champions."
