2022 Team Overview
On August 8, 2022, the Flint Monarchs were crowned champions of the Global Women’s Basketball Association (GWBA) by defeating the top seeded Wisconsin Glo 72-70 at home to pull off the biggest playoff upset in GWBA history. Sparkle Taylor was named the Finals MVP of the national championship game after scoring 17 points and three rounds [click here to review article].
In addition, on July 17, 2022, the Flint Monarchs won its first FIBA United Cup tournament and international championship by beating Uprise Fenix Femenino 57-48 in Santiago, Dominican Republic [click here to review article]. Asia Boyd was named the tournament MVP in leading the Monarchs to the championship [click here to review article].
Flint finished with a 4-6 record in the GWBA but overall (including the FIBA United Cup tournament), finished with a record of 8-6 for the 2023 season.
