MONARCHS TOP ST. LOUIS SURGE 94-79
Flint, MI- August 5, 2019- In a preview of this weekend’s GWBA Championship semi-finals match-up, the Flint Monarchs took on their league rival St. Louis Surge and closed the regular season with a 94-79 home victory.
It was a game the Monarchs never trailed and used a 23-9 run in the 4th quarter to close the game and secured a 2nd place finish in the Global Women’s Basketball Association standings.

Sparkle Taylor led all scorers with a game high 20 points. Taylor played at Flint Northwestern High school and The University of Texas at El Paso.
Crystal Bradford posted 19 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and 3 steals off the bench.
Flint natives and Hamady High School products Jasmine Thomas and Brandie Baker both recorded 12 points each as well as Arlesia Morse who chipped in 11 points.
The Surge was led by Rebecca Harris and Kristie Bellock who both scored 16 points apiece. Harris who was coming off a recent 27 point performance against the Music City Icons was held in check below her season average.
The Monarchs (3-3) will head to Oshkosh, WI to take on the St. Louis Surge (3-3) in the semi-finals of the GWBA Championship Tournament on Saturday August 10 at the Menominee Nation Arena, tipoff is at 3:00 pm CST.
